March 10, 2009 Meeting Minutes- Approved May 12, 2009

In attendance: Susan Saunders, Alan Lury, Mary Tobin, and Jane Desberg.

Johnson Drive

The members in attendance appeared before the Board of Selectmen earlier in the evening to express the SHP’s interest in acquiring the Johnson Drive property for affordable housing development and the hope that the BOS would support the SHP in this effort. The BOS indicated that they would consider supporting the use of this property for affordable housing once they had confirmed that the Chitvannis were amenable to this idea. Jane Desberg reported that although  South Shore Habitat for Humanity was not interested in this land for development due to grading issues, other non-profit developers including the Women’s Institute for Housing and Economic Development have been contacted.

The group discussed the size limitations of the site and considered that a mixed use project might be the most feasible to interest potential non-profit developers. The question of whether the land would need to be rezoned as commercial for a LIP mixed use development to go forward was raised.

The question of whether the remainder of the grant money used to assess the Winslow Road site could be used for a feasibility study of the Johnson Drive site was also raised.

Alan Lury will resend the final report to members.

Glenview Road

As of the end of February the tenants had not vacated. Susan Saunders offered to check with Ben Puritz regarding the insurance status of the house.

Wilber School

Work is proceeding.

New Business

Alan Lury reported that Michael Intoccia is in negotiations to purchase the Hunters Ridge property with plans for 2-bedroom townhouses. Intoccia has stated that if he purchases the property he will deed 3-5 acres of land to the Town for a wastewater treatment facility.
